Trombones
Trombones have changed very little since their conception unlike most other instruments, although they were originally called sackbuts. What sets the trombone apart from other brass instruments is their ability to slide smoothly from one note to another. This effect is called a glissando. Listen out for it in Bartok’s Concerto for Orchesta and Elgar’s famous ‘cello concerto. Much use has been made of the glissando for comic effect in pieces like “The Acrobat” by J.A. Greenwood.
We stock alto, tenor and bass trombones, new and second hand, as well as more unusual types such as valve and soprano trombones (also known, less correctly, as slide trumpets).
