Besson Prototype Enharmonic System Baritone Horn

This Besson Prototype Enharmonic System Baritone Horn is a very nice vintage playable collectable in very good condition for its age.  Made sometime around 1920, this Besson Prototype Enharmonic System Baritone Horn is a high pitch instrument that has never had any modifications done to it to bring it down standard pitch. However, there is enough length on the main tuning slide to be able play at A=440 Hz. Comes supplied in a woodshell case that has seen much better days, but is still OK for storage. No mouthpiece included. This baritone utilises the Besson enharmonic system.

The Besson enharmonic system is unique tuning system used in brass instruments, particularly the euphonium. It features two sets of slides for different parts othe range, allowing for precise pitch adjustments. The system operates on three valves, with the fourth valve redirecting airflow, which is different from the compensating system used in other systems. This designwas patented in 1904 and was intended to provide a more versitile and efficient tuning solution for brass bands of the era.
