Description

Martin Horn

A signalling device rather than a musical instrument, the Martin Horn (or Martinstrompete) looks like a many-belled trumpet. The sound is actually produced by metal reeds with the valves (generally between two and four, but usually three) used to divert the sound through one or more of the bells. Originally used as a signalling device on train and tram lines and worn on a strap over the shoulder of the operator.

This particular example has three valves and four bells and unlike a genuine brass instrument it can sound all four notes together. Sold in working order.
