Vintage Morton French Bassoon

Vintage Morton French Bassoon made by Alfred Morton & Sons of London. All keys present and springs working, no cracks and tenon corks are good, but would probably benefit from a service.

Alfred Morton (1827- 1898) was the prominent manufacturer of wind instruments of his time. He produced numerous instruments for the British army. The firm flourished in London from 1874-c.1902. In 1872 his sons joined and continued the London based company. A name change occurred in 1885 to A. Morton & Co., late A. Morton & Sons.In 1902 the firm Hawkes & Son bought hid equipment, but not the rights to use his name. The company inhabited a succession of different premises in south London in Clapham, Pimlico and Brixton.
