About Conn:
C.G. Conn started making mouthpieces in 1873 and in 1875 produced his first cornet, probably the first to be made in America. In 1880 Conn was elected Mayor of Elkhart, Indiana which is where Conn trombones are still made today. At this time he was making a larger variety of instruments and developed an interest in the unusual. In 1907 he built an immensaphone, the largest horn in the world at 12 feet in diameter and 35 feet long. Other firsts included the first American saxophone and the sousaphone which was built to the specifications of John Philip Sousa. C.G Conn retired in 1915 but the company lives on.
The best known instruments made by Conn today are trombones, particularly the 8H and 88H which have become the industry standard within the world’s symphony orchestras. Recognised for their superior tone and ability to take extreme dynamics without breaking up, Conn trombones take some beating.
