Tom Crown Trumpet Wah Mute Copper
Tom Crown Trumpet Wah Mute Copper has excellent intonation and response across the full range of the trumpet with the stem in, extended or removed. Made from copper for a powerful Harmon-style sound. The large size of the Tom Crown Wah-wah offers improved intonation and better low register than some smaller designs.
Also available in aluminium for a bright/lighter tone and lighter weight.
Tom Crown on mute materials and sounds:
Different types of metal definitely affect the mute’s tone quality and response, much as different metals used in a bell affect a trumpet’s tone quality and response. It is very difficult to describe what these differences are, however. One person’s “dark” is another person’s “dead”; another person’s “bright” is someone else’s “tinny.” To me, the Tom Crown all-aluminium straight mute is bright, the brass-end mute less bright or somewhat dead, and the copper-end or the all-copper mute is dark.
About Tom Crown
Tom Crown has been making mutes since 1969 having been inspired by a mute that Adolph Herseth used on the D trumpet. With help and feedback from colleagues in the Lyric Opera Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, he developed other trumpet mutes, piccolo trumpet mutes, tenor and bass trombone mutes and a French horn mute.
