Bass Trumpets

Bass Trumpets are the largest and lowest pitched trumpets in common use today and are usually pitched in Bb or C. There are some similarities to the valve trombone but as the bore is smaller the tone quality is very different. They can be heard in Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring and in much of Wagner’s music. Pitched an octave below the normal trumpet it is mostly played by trombonists, but there are some trumpet players like Michel Padron who double on the Bass Trumpet.
