Tubas are the lowest pitched brass instruments with a range between 1 1/2 and 2 octaves below a trumpet. The tuba comes in many shapes and sizes, commonly pitched in Eb and Bb in the UK. However, there are many tubas pitched in C and F. The tuba comes with either 3 valves, like a trumpet, or 4 valves with a compensating system. The 4th valve with a compensating system transposes the instrument down a 4th.
