Bb Trumpets became the standard type of trumpet during the early to mid twentieth century. Until then trumpets in F with crooks for various keys down to C were in common use. These days trumpets in B flat are the default instrument for many players and the instrument that virtually all players start on. Many orchestral players and soloists use trumpets in various keys – C, D, Eb, F, G and piccolo trumpets in A, Bb and C are all available – depending on the musical situation.
